HR manager comes home to give back

September 16, 2019

Laura Fender is new to U.S. Silica (formerly EP Minerals), located in Middleton, but she’s not new to Hardeman County. The Human Resource Manager said although she has lived in Hardeman County for 22 years, for most of that time she worked in Jackson.

When she decided to join U.S. Silica she wasn’t exactly looking for a new job. But when she was made aware of the position and decided to take it, one of her considerations was to work closer to home in order to give back to her own community.

“In my old job, I did a lot of community involvement, but it was in Jackson. I was driving 45 minutes to do volunteer work in another community.  Hardeman county is my home and I want to be able to give back to the place I call home,” said Laura.

Just two weeks on the new job, Laura attended Coffee Talk at the Chamber as a way to connect with local business leaders and seek opportunities to serve her home community. Coffee Talk is every second Friday of the month at 8 am. While usually held at the Chamber offices, occasionally it is hosted at the places of business of Chamber Members located around the county. Follow Hardeman County Chamber of Facebook to stay updated on upcoming Coffee Talks and other events.

Laura is now three months into her new job in Hardeman County and at September Coffee Talk she said it is going well.
