Rep. Johnny Shaw at Coffee Talk

October 11, 2019

Johnny Shaw listens as Chuck Thomas addresses the group.

Tennessee Representative Johnny Shaw was a guest at Coffee Talk this morning which was a special Town Hall-style event.

Rep. Shaw wanted an opportunity to connect with Hardeman County community members and the local business community to hear what issues are important to them as he prepares to return to Nashville for his latest session in the legislature.

Rep. Shaw opened discussion with updates on local developments such as the continuation of the development of Highway 18, how he thinks focusing on Downtown Bolivar development will benefit the whole county, and his bill that will seek to make pre-k education available to all Tennessee children.

Bolivar City Mayor Julian McTizic asked what measures are being taken to bring broadband to Hardeman County and Rep. Shaw invited Chuck Thomas, regional director of AT&T, to speak about broadband opportunities coming soon to Hardeman County.

Thomas said AT&T is working on small cell devices that will be installed throughout the area that will boost broadband connectivity from local cell towers.

Rep. Shaw will be returning to Nashville full time in November for budget hearings before the full general assembly begins in January 2020. He invited anyone to visit him at his office in Nashville in Suite 570 on the legislative block.

Those present represented the City of Bolivar, the Bolivar Police Department, Bolivar Main Street, Hardeman County Highway Department, Hardeman County Assessor of Property Office, the Hardeman County 911 Board, the Hardeman County Board of Education, and local non-profits and businesses: Hardeman County Community Health Center, Southern Express Pharmacy, and Jackson Hewitt Tax Service.

Breakfast was provided by Biscuitry. Coffee Talk is every second Friday of the month at 8:00 am and is sponsored by the Hardeman County Chamber of Commerce.
