Tennessee tourism saves households money

Cover of the tourism economic impact report.The economic impact of Tennessee tourism increased from 2017 to 2018 saving households $712 annually in local and state tax dollars according to the latest report released by Tennessee Department of Tourist Development.

Travel in Tennessee generated almost 190,000 jobs and $1.81 billion in local and state tax revenue.

What does this mean for Hardeman County?

Hardeman County saw an increase in all categories of spending reported by TDTD ranking 11th among West Tennessee counties for its increases.

  • 3.98% increase in spending by tourists to Hardeman County
  • 3.84% increase in payroll expenses for Hardeman County employees with a small increase in new jobs
  • An almost 2.5% increase in both state and local tax revenue by tourists in Hardeman County

How can you help?

Support your county. Go to local festivals and events. Help promote events and attractions by sharing posts on Facebook or inviting friends and family to visit. Get involved in planning events and volunteering at attractions. Contact us at the Chamber for ways to get involved in something that interests you whether it’s local music, local history, or something else.

Speak positively about your county. It may seem strange to talk about tourist attractions in Hardeman County but Hardeman County is not without its own assets to promote tourism. As a place which boasts a rich historical heritage which attracts many tourists to the area, not to mention a flourishing business community which also attracts tourists. To see an increase in these numbers is not shocking, but should be expected.

Visit local shops, eat in local restaurants, go to local events, share pictures on Facebook and Instagram. Do what interests you here and while it may seem normal to you, it’s noteworthy to someone else looking at Hardeman County as a place to visit.

When they visit, tourism numbers go up. When tourism numbers go up, your own home benefits.
